Congratulations to all students in the PRSD elementary strings program who made Honor Roll for Term 1.  Please see their names under "Honors and Recognition."

I apologize for not updating the Assignments page last week--this week's assignments are now up.  Also, please note updates to the "Calendar" page.

***This week a piece of information also went out to beginning students that mistakenly omitted 3rd grade from the March elementary instrumental concert.  Please note that 3rd and 4th grade beginners WILL take part in this concert, so please keep your calendars clear!

Lessons will be beginning district-wide this Tuesday, 9/20.  Students with Monday lessons will begin next week. Advanced String Ensemble also begins this week.  Ms. Schauer's schedule will be available in the Forms and Documents page on Tuesday, 9/20, as well.

I am very excited for this upcoming school year.  The strings program has grown immensely over the past year, with the addition of a Middle School orchestra and the prospect of a High School orchestra in the near future.

One of my great hopes for this year is to start a parent strings organization to help me with fundraising and organizational matters.  If you are interested in being a part of this group, please email me or post a comment to this site.

For Middle School students, an information session will be held during the music/advisory block the first day of school.  We will discuss meeting dates and other logistical questions.

There is a great deal of information going out to parents of new and returning elementary strings students during the first few weeks of school.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me or post a comment to this site.

Finally, private lessons through the Pentucket Music Academy will begin within the next few weeks.  Please visit www.prsd.org/music-academy to enroll your child.

Please note that the deadline to participate in the Summer Strings Program has been extended to Tuesday, June 21.  Forms can be passed in at school or directly to Ms. Schauer.  The lessons will be at the Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July.  The times for groups will be as follows:

9:00 AM- entering grades 4 & 5
10:00 AM- entering grades 4 & 5
11:30 AM- entering grades 6 & 7

Forms can be downloaded here.

There will also be private lessons offered through the Pentucket Music Academy for $27/half hour.

Please note that the Jamboree for 6/14 has been moved inside the High School Auditorium due to a forecast for rain.  Strings students are to report to the band room at 5:30.  Students are asked to unpack quickly and make a single-file line for tuning.  Please wear your PRSD Music t-shirt or Pentucket green.  Students are asked to stay and watch the rest of the concert from the audience after they play, if possible.  Also, please note that during part of this time I will need to be at the "instrument petting zoo" in the cafeteria to meet incoming students and parents with questions about the program.  I will stay afterward to speak with parents whom I have not yet met, etc.  Thank you for your cooperation with the many changes we have made to this event.  I apologize that many students will be unable to attend now, but I do feel in retrospect that the music department's decision to postpone was correct, since temperatures topped 90 degrees and we experienced severe thunderstorms during the time at which the Jamboree was to take place.

I hope everyone enjoyed last night's concert.  It was a great opportunity for parents, staff and students to see how much the program has grown and the direction in which it is headed.  Thank you, strings students for a fantastic concert!  I am very proud of the hard work you put in this year.  I'm also excited about our future performances.

I would also like to give a special thanks to all the help that was on hand last night, especially PRSD Fine and Performing Arts Director Ellen Hart, the custodial staff at the Middle School and my wonderfully organized and effective parent volunteers: Marcella Blake, Darlene Madden, Laurie Paszko, Sharyn Perotti and Kelly Scott.
